Child Star, Demi Lovato's directorial debut, deconstructs the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world’s most famous former child stars, including Lovato. The film explores how children are propelled to superstardom at a young age and how their rise to fame, fortune and power affects their futures.

The release of Child Star spotlighted Demi Lovato’s advocacy for critical child labor protections in online content. This effort was woven seamlessly into the project's development, storytelling, and marketing campaign, ensuring its mission resonated far and wide. Demi leveraged her press tour as a powerful platform, including a call to action on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where she encouraged 1.5 million viewers to urge Governor Gavin Newsom to pass legislation protecting child performers. Following the Child Star’s no. 1 release globally, Lovato’s advocacy set a movement into motion, culminating in Governor Newsom inviting Lovato and producer Michael D. Ratner to join Newsom as he signed two groundbreaking bills into law, securing protections against financial exploitation for young creators.
